Celebrate Elwha! was a multi-day, multi-venue destination event centered in Port Angeles and the Elwha River valley, featuring a ceremony marking the beginning of the largest dam removal in U.S. history, a two-day science symposium, educational activities scheduled at locations throughout the watershed, as well as various music acts and art showcased in downtown Port Angeles.
On behalf of Olympic National Park thank you to everyone who contributed to making Celebrate Elwha! a success. Throughout the week we had amazing turnouts and tremendous enthusiasm. The poetry readings and evening in Sequim were standing room only, the Peninsula college gymnasium was filled during Yvon Chouinard's talk and I overheard many people talking about how inspiring the Science Symposium was throughout the weekend. Friday and Saturday hosted over 300 guests the dinner Gala, sold out cruises, crowds downtown, at the Landing Mall and at the pier during the ceremony and kids acts. eTown rocked with Cake and over 1,000 people. The Olympic Peninsula can take great pride in their ability to work together to accomplish amazing things with examples such as the Elwha River Restoration and the community organized festival Celebrate Elwha!
You may purchase various Elwha River Restoration memorabilia at Olympic National Park Aramark properties, Olympic National Park visitor centers, and exploreolympics.com.
